Brett Forrest Match Report - Danderhall Miners

Edinburgh South women recorded an important away win over Danderhall on Sunday.

An uncut, muddy pitch was the venue for Edinburgh South on a cold, windy afternoon. Despite the Danderhall ultras in attendance (3 kids and a drum), South started the game well. Eight minutes in, Abigail Hunter switched the ball over the top to Erin McComisky on the right who went through on goal and finished well.

The lead was doubled in the 20th minute when Mia Brotherston, from a tight angle on the right-hand side, shot across goal and beat the keeper.

South added a third right before half-time when Erin played Rhea Kilgallon in, who found the net well, which, given her form, was unsurprising.

Danderhall had an uphill challenge in the second half but, thanks to the slope of the pitch, were attacking downhill and from kick off, they pulled one back.

The rest of the half became a scrappy affair with Danderhall doing well to make it difficult for South.

Mia Brotherston did well to fashion out a few chances, but a solid performance from the keeper meant she could not add to her tally.

In such conditions and on such a pitch, it was never going to be an easy game. Edinburgh South, however, showed that they had the resolve and strength to find the win despite that. Whether it’s a free-flowing performance on a high quality astro, or a scrappy game on a tough grass pitch, South proved on Sunday that they can win them all.
