Match Report Mens U20s - Bonnyrigg Rose

FULL TIME | A real battling win for the young South last night.

With the squad missing a few of the more experienced heads, it was a big opportunity for our younger players, with three 2009s and a 2010 involved in the squad. Peter Turner and Dean Watters both made their first starts at U20s level.

South started brightly, with James Christopher causing problems early on through our direct play, but Bonnyrigg took the lead after winning the ball high up the pitch and finishing calmly.

From there, Bonnyrigg took control for a spell and played some really good attacking football. Credit to the young South side, who weathered the storm and began to create chances of their own towards the end of the half.

The second half started perfectly as Sam followed on from his excellent form last season, firing a 25-yard free kick into the top corner to level the game.

Bonnyrigg responded and regained the lead following a move down the left, but South kept battling. A brilliant run from Shaun Lamont earned a penalty, which Joey Hunter calmly converted before Joey stepped up again shortly afterwards to smash another 25-yard free kick home and put South ahead.

South continued to push and, after winning the ball high up the pitch, James Christopher cut it back for Carson to tap home and make it 4-2.

The game remained end to end, with Bonnyrigg pulling one back from the penalty spot, but with seconds remaining South broke forward and James Christopher sealed the points.

A special mention for 16-year-old Aaron Kettrick, who came on in the middle of the park with South trailing 2-1. Aaron never put a foot wrong and looked like he had been playing at U20s level for seasons.

A huge credit to Wes and Jamie for the work they are doing with the 2010s and the pathway being created for our young players.
