Edinburgh South 2–4 Murieston

It was so good to be back on the pitch for our season opener against league winners Murieston - and even better to start the league with a bright evening, sunshine and some proper summer football! ☀️

Although, judging by the number of times the ball found faces tonight, perhaps we should have brought a face guards… 😅

We started brilliantly. There was so much pace, great control of the ball and plenty of chances created. Eventually, Salomé found the breakthrough! 🥳

Murieston tried to argue that the ball hadn’t crossed the line, but it absolutely had- over the line and on the scoreboard! 1–0 South 💪

We kept the pressure on and continued to play with pace and confidence. Unfortunately, after a knock and a little defensive crumble, Murieston found the equaliser, making it 1–1 going into half time.😳

But there was still so much in the tank. Everything was there, so we came out hungry for more in the second half.🙌

Once again, we showed good pace, control and plenty of attacking intent. Unfortunately, a handball in the box- because apparently we hadn’t had enough face smacks for one evening- resulted in a penalty. 🫣 Murieston converted to make it 2–1.

But our heads didn’t drop. We kept pushing.

Murieston found another and suddenly it was 3- 1, but South weren’t done yet. We’ve got this!💪

After a brilliant run forward from defence, Maria found the back of the net to give us hope of still bagging some points. 3–2!🤩

We pushed, we fought and we tried everything we could, but there just wasn’t enough time. Murieston managed to find another in the final seconds of the game to make it 4–2.🥲

Not the result we wanted, but plenty to be proud of. The team looked really good, there was pace, energy, fight and some great football on show. There are a couple of lessons for us to take away, but this is only the start of the season.🫶

And if tonight is anything to go by, you’re going to see South roaring this season.

Is it a promise?
