U20s Match Report - Penicuik Athletic

FULL TIME: Edinburgh South 2-3 Penicuik

South started brightly, moving the ball quickly and using their pace to cause problems. The early pressure paid off when good link up play from Shane and JC allowed Josh Stewart to finish with an audacious back heel to put us 1-0 up.

The game stayed fairly even with Penicuik enjoying more of the ball but South looking dangerous on the counter. A freak equaliser followed when a corner drifted through everyone and straight into the net. Right on half time some naive play gifted Penicuik another chance and South went in 2-1 down at the break.

The boys came out firing in the second half and were rewarded when JC drove forward, the loose ball fell to Conor Grealis and he unleashed a venomous 25 yard strike into the corner to level the game.

Unfortunately Liam saw red after a second booking, leaving South with 10 men for the final 35 minutes. Despite that the lads kept their shape brilliantly, limiting Penicuik to very little while still threatening on the break. Penicuik then retook the lead with what looked like an overhit cross that somehow found the far corner.

South pushed hard for an equaliser and showed great character and attitude throughout, and can feel unlucky not to take something from the game given the effort on display.

🟥⚪ Proud of the boys last night. Plenty to build on.
