Defeat in Dunipace this evening as South exited the RJM Sports League Cup against a strong side from the division above.
South made the perfect start and took the lead after just 3 minutes. Stuart Martin slipped in Max Clark who showed great composure to drive goalward before finishing well. Dunipace responded quickly though, equalising 4 minutes later when a corner was nodded back across goal and turned home, despite strong claims for a push on Whitelaw.
Both sides created chances in an entertaining first half, with South arguably having the clearer openings, but neither side could find a second before the break.
Dunipace took the lead 5 minutes into the second half as their striker made a clever run across the defence, rounded Whitelaw and slotted home. South continued to push for an equaliser and carried a threat throughout, but the hosts added a third with 4 minutes remaining after a corner wasn’t fully cleared and a strike through a crowded box found the back of the net.
A fantastic test tonight for South against a very strong Dunipace side, and a performance full of effort and quality that the squad can be proud of.
