FULL TIME
Edinburgh South U20s 4–5 Nitten
A breathless game at Holyrood tonight with some unbelievable goals from both sides in what was a brilliant advert for development football.
South started well, pressing from the front and creating a few half chances. Nitten took the lead when the ball broke on the edge of the box and a wonderful curled finish found the corner.
South responded well and Shane Majekodunmi equalised with a great finish from a tight angle. South then went 2–1 up after Joey’s excellent run saw him taken down by the Nitten keeper, with Majekodunmi stepping up to convert the penalty.
Nitten hit back with a screamer of a free kick that flew into the top corner. Just before half time South produced another moment of quality - brilliant combination play from Joey and Shane released Sully, who beat his man and dinked the ball past the keeper from what looked like an impossible angle.
South came out for the second half but switched off in the opening 10 minutes, conceding twice to go 4–3 down after a strike from the edge of the box and an unfortunate own goal.
South kept pushing and were rewarded when Sam curled a stunning 25-yard effort into the top corner to make it 4–4.
After Nitten hit the post, South had three glorious chances to win the game but couldn’t quite convert. Nitten then broke late on and sealed the game with another excellent 25-yard finish into the top corner.
A tough result in the end, but a performance full of effort and quality from our young side as attention now turns to next week’s League Cup Quarter Final.
