FULL TIME | Penicuik Athletic 3-2 Edinburgh South

South narrowly miss out on a point at Penicuik after a battling second half performance.

The game started evenly as both sides looked to settle into proceedings. South had a good early opportunity when Sam was brought down on the edge of the box, with both benches surprised to see the referee produce only a yellow card.

As the half wore on, Penicuik began to grow into the game and create more opportunities, eventually finding the breakthrough to send South into the interval 1-0 down.

South came out more aggressively after the break and pressed higher up the pitch, but Penicuik hit on the counter to double their advantage.

Credit to the boys, they kept fighting. Sean brilliantly won the ball high up the pitch before being brought down by the goalkeeper, allowing Joey Hunter to step up and calmly slot home from the spot to make it 2-1.

The game became increasingly end to end and Penicuik restored their two goal advantage on the counter. South responded almost immediately as James Christopher raced onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper and finished to bring it back to 3-2.

South pushed hard for an equaliser and were desperately unlucky not to get one, with an outstanding last ditch challenge from the Penicuik centre half denying James Christopher when he looked set to level the game.

A disappointing result, but plenty of fight shown right until the final whistle.

New signings Peter Gilchrist and Noah Doig went straight into the starting XI, while Fergus Richardson and Cody Genter took their places on the bench.
