Match Report Womens Rec Team - Haddington Athletic

🗒️ Match Report- Edinburgh South 2 – 2 Haddington Athletic

With this fixture we’ve now faced every team in the league once, and while the overall record so far stands at three losses and three draws, the feeling in the squad is clear- we’re close. Very close. The performances are there, and that first win feels just around the corner.🤞

But let’s talk about tonight.

We started fast. Confident. Calm on the ball and controlling the tempo early on. A big thank you to Cat for stepping in between the sticks tonight - she was vocal from the first minute and really helped drive the team forward and keep everyone organised. 🙏

Both sides played really good football, showing great skill and awareness throughout. But it was us who struck first. After some excellent build-up play, Ciara found the moment and buried a brilliant goal to open the scoring. 1–0 and we were flying!💪

Unfortunately, football can turn quickly. The opposition won a corner- always a dangerous situation- and in the scramble to clear the ball we unfortunately turned it into our own net. A tough one to take, but that’s football. 1–1 at half time.

The message at the break was simple: regroup, reset and go again. The pitch is wide but the tanks were still full and we knew we had more to give.🙌

The second half started just as quickly, with chances at both ends. It was an intense period with both teams pushing hard. Then we started to see players picking up knocks, and there were a few moments tonight that really made us hold our breath.😬

Eventually we had to take Nago off as she was in real agony, and with the team reshuffling to adjust we lost our shape slightly. Haddington capitalised and found the net to make it 2–1 with just seven minutes left to play.🙈

Heads up though- the question was: can we pull this off?

We needed a spark… and we needed Nago back. Showing incredible determination, she gathered all her strength and came back on for the final five minutes.🙌

And what a finish it turned out to be. The final minutes were full of energy- great passes, creative play, strong runs and shots. Then the moment arrived. Tracy delivered a fantastic pass into the box and Ciara was there again to tap it home! 2–2!!🥳

Game on. Pressure everywhere. Both teams wanted the winner- but we wanted it more. We pushed, we pressed, we searched for that final breakthrough, but time wasn’t on our side and the whistle brought an end to a brilliant contest.

Overall, a fantastic performance from the whole team. Unlucky not to come away with all three points, but a point is a point and there are so many positives to take.

Well done everyone- and now we look ahead to the reverse fixtures starting next week.
