Match Report: Edinburgh South 2–2 Jeanfield Swifts

We almost had it.

A point is a point, but conceding an equaliser in the final seconds always hurts. Still, this was a performance full of heart, quality, and togetherness from Edinburgh South.

From the first whistle, the team stayed strong and relentless- pressing high, winning ball after ball, and creating multiple chances. The breakthrough finally came after a brilliant strike from Cat, who fired us into the lead with confidence. The pressure didn’t ease. Instead, the girls kept pushing, playing composed, controlled football and showing real maturity on the ball.

Our second goal came after another calm and controlled finish from Ciara, giving us a deserved cushion heading into half-time. We knew Jeanfield Swifts would come back roaring after the break- but we were ready.

With our regular goalkeeper enjoying some sunshine back home, we made a quick change at half-time. A big thank you to Megan and Tracy for stepping up and taking a half each for the team. Both did a fantastic job, with Tracy pulling off some outstanding saves to keep us ahead as Jeanfield pushed forward.

We continued to create chances of our own, looking dangerous and composed. But Jeanfield showed their quality too. After a cleverly executed set-piece from a corner, they pulled one back and made a real game of it.

The girls kept their pace and composure, battling for every ball. Then came the cruel final moments. With just 30 seconds left, a Jeanfield effort struck the crossbar and appeared to go out- but the referee awarded a corner. From that corner, Jeanfield delivered another well-worked set-piece and found the equaliser.

Gutted. Truly gutted.

There was barely time to respond before the final whistle blew. But as we said after the match- we are so proud of our girls. They have each other’s backs. They fight for one another. One for all and all for one.

Heads high. On to the next one.
